Hungry for More!
Wow! This was one heck of a start to what I am certain is going to be a red HOT series. I just finished reading A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole. The tension is palpable, I am sure I felt so flustered a few times I had to go back and reread what I had just read because I didn’t quite get it right the first time, my eyes were on FIRE!
This story begins with Emmaline (aka Emma) who is a half-Valkyrie/half-Vampire anomaly. She is better known as Emma the Meek because despite her auspicious lineage, she is not one to seek conflict. In fact, she thinks she is not good at much. But this is neither here nor there because soon after, she is set upon by her soon-to-be-mate Lachlain. Leader of the Lykae Clan (werewolf) hailing from the Scottish Highlands. So, on top of his gorgeous towering frame, he’s got a sexy accent to boot…

So, in the world of the supernatural creatures, even they have their bonding habits. Lykae seek their one true mate. Who Lachlain has been waiting nigh near a millenia to find her, so when Emmaline crosses his path, he is certain not to let her out of his sights. (Good for him!) It makes for one heck of an encounter, and on the streets of Paris no less.
So begins the story of their impossible romance. I am duly impressed with Kresley Cole’s take on the Vampire/Werewolf lore, and even more so that it includes otherworldly creatures such as the Valkyrie, Furaies, Demons and Ghouls. It makes for a very diverse world, but apparently very active and always in conflict. I don’t want to give away too much–the story is so good I insist you stop reading this and go find the book at once. Its imperative!
But I digress. Lachlain is complex and very sexy. I found myself wishing that he were real, or ones like him, so I could have one of my very own. A tall, dark, highly intelligent and handsome man, always bent on the pleasures of life: food, physical touch and conversation…sounds like a recipe for bliss. He’s intense and the scenes between him and Emma practically burn on the pages.
Emma is conflicted about her mixed heritage and seems to struggle with what she has been raised as, and what she really is. But in that conflict lies the foundation for a complete turnaround as she develops and grows, both in maturity and self-recognition through her relationship with Lachlain. Its very encouraging to read her character and her progression.
There are plenty of interesting side characters that are introduced in this book, who I believe will either feature prominently in the sequels, or make guest appearances to further their own sub-plots. I can barely wait to get my hands on the next book.
